With “Almost Maine” production done, South’s theater has started preparations for the next musical, The Tony-award-winning musical “Mary Poppins”.
“Mary Poppins” follows the story of the Banks family and their two kids, Jane and Micheal, who are having a difficult time finding a good nanny and are in need of the “perfect nanny.” Jane and Micheal decide to take matters into their own hands and write up their own advertisement and find one that meets their needs. Although their father, George Banks, doesn’t agree with their requirements and throws the paper into the fire for it to be destroyed forever. To the family’s surprise, moments later Mary Poppins arrives at the door holding the same advertisement that was thrown into the fire and applies for the job. Mary Poppins helps the children learn valuable life lessons through songs and games, and even ends up helping Mr. Banks and his wife, Winfifred Banks. Poppins teaches the family how to have fun while having rules in place.
“We’re looking forward to getting a lot of little kids out and families out to see the show, and getting people connected to theatre and live theatre” director Mark Swezey said.
